Sharing the Schnabel Family’s Musical Heritage
Following Therese Behr Schnabel’s and Artur Schnabel’s death, their son Karl Ulrich Schnabel was in charge of his parents’ musical heritage. From 1997 on, Karl Ulrich Schnabel’s daughter Ann, together with her husband François Mottier and son Claude Mottier, have been representing the Schnabel family musicians.
It was Claude’s devotion to music and his heritage, and his untimely demise in 2002 that have inspired Ann and François to create the Schnabel Music Foundation as a means for sharing the Schnabel musical legacy with the world.
Britta Matterne, musicologist and editor of Artur and Therese Schnabel’s correspondence, joined the team in 2014 and is in charge of the Foundation’s production.
Mary Virginia Foreman, a life long admirer of Artur Schnabel, initially joined the Schnabel Music Foundation through generous ongoing funding.
The Foundation’s purpose is to share the Schnabel family’s musical heritage with the general public. The mission statement established in December of 2002 has remained unchanged since then:
More then 20 years have passed since the creation of the Schnabel Music Foundation and almost all specific goals have been reached.
François and Ann Mottier dedicate their work to the memory of their son, Claude Alain Mottier, and to Mary Virginia Foreman Le Garrec (1908–2012), who dedicated her effort to the memory of Artur Schnabel.
